Fastastic Beasts The Crimes of Grindelwald atau yang dikenal Fantastic Beasts 2 merupakan film bergenre petulangan fantasi yang digarap oleh David Yates (The Legend of Tarzan, The Tichborne Claimant) selaku sutradara bekerja sama dengan J. K. Rowling yang merupakan penulis cerita dalam buku Harry Potter dan juga penulis cerita dalam film ini sekaligus menjadi produser bersama dengan David Heyman (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Willy Wonka), Steve Kloves (Wonder Boys, The Amazing Spider-Man) dan Lionel Wigram (Sherlock Holmes 3, The Man from U.N.C.L.E.).

Film ini menjadi sekuel atau melanjutkan cerita dari film Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them (2016) yang merupakan prekuel atau kisah sebelumnya dari seluruh film Harry Potter dan juga menjadi film kesepuluh dari Wizarding World franchise.

Wizarding World atau yang dikenal J. K. Rowling's Wizarding World adalah universe atau semesta dari series dalam sebuah film dimana diawali dari film Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone pada tahun 2001 berdasarkan novel karya J. K. Rowling.

Alur cerita film ini melanjutkan petualangan dari Newt Scamander yang kini bersama dengan Albus Dumbledore, saat dimana mereka berusaha untuk menjatuhkan penyihir gelap bernama Gellert Grindelwald dan menghadapi ancama baru didunia sihir yang lebih terbagi.

J. K. Rowling telah mengkonfirmasi jika alur cerita ini akan mengarah pada pertempuran epik antara Albus Dumbledore dan Gellert Grindelwald pada tahun 1945.

Diproduksi oleh Heyday Films dengan kembali menghadirkan aktor dan aktris di film pertama seperti Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything, Early Man), Katherine Waterston (The Current War, Alien Covenant), Dan Fogler (30 Nights, Making the Day), Ezra Miller (Justice League, Suicide Squad), Alison Sudol (Between Us, The Last Full Measure) dan Johnny Depp(Black Mass, The Invisible Man). Turut serta aktor kawakan yaitu Jude Law (Captain Marvel, The Nest) yang akan berperan sebagai Albus Dumbledore muda.

Karakter yang diperankan oleh Zoe Kravitz, Leta Lestrange diharapkan memiliki bagian yang jauh lebih besar dalam film ini karena yang telah diketahui bahwa keluarga Lestrange memiliki reputasi yang menonjol dalam dunia sihir dimana diseri sebelumnya telah menghadirkan Bellatrix Lestrange, yang menikah dengan salah satu keluarga Lastrange, yaitu Rodolphus dan saudaranya, Rabastan Lestrange. Mereka adalah salah satu dari Sacred Twenty-Eight (keluarga keturunan sejati) yang dikenal karena kekayaan ekstrim, pureblood supremasi dan praktek Ilmu Hitam. Bahkan beberapa anggota keluarga menjadi Pelahap Maut (Death Eaters).

Karakter Theseus adalah kakak dari Newt, yang diperankan oleh Eddie Redmayne. Namun kenyataannya Eddie 8 tahun lebih tua dari Callum Turner, pemeran Theseus.

Selaku pihak pendistributor, Warner Bros Pictures telah menjadwalkan film Fantastic Beasts The Crime of Grindelwald pada pertengahan bulan november dengan tagline-nya "Who will change the future?".
